MY STORY

JW shadow.jpg

Sydney born, Parramatta bred. The wet behind my ears has long been dry and, suddenly, I’m nearly seventy - with something to say!

As a young bloke I didn’t follow my heart, instead I became an engineer. Later I fell in to the insurance industry to which I then devoted 40 years of my working life. No regrets for it is a folly to feel sorrow about one's life and I’m grateful for the opportunities that came my way.

As I entered my sixtieth year a sense of urgency came over me. That young blokes heart started to beat again and that guitar of mine, left in the cupboard for 30 years, demanded to be played. And with those rusty strums I heard music - my own music. So I started to write.

My music might make you think but I’d rather it made you feel. Relate to the emotions we all experience as we go through life that I’ve tried to capture: Love and love lost, epiphanies and horrible truths, triumphs and broken dreams. And hey, it’s all good. Understanding this is the getting of wisdom and the key to freedom from suffering.

I also like to write poetry which I think of as lucid gibbering - in rhyme. I think my songs are really life poems set to a tune.

I haven’t been lucky in love. I have 3 sons. Now I’m flying solo. I've retired from stress so I can keep ‘working’ because I love being around people. I don’t think of it as work. I believe a person needs to feel useful, keep making a contribution as long as possible.

This website is warts and all me. It’s my bit for humankind via the world of art, a voice to our common creative soul struggling to be expressed, and to my own variable sense of self worth (why is that such a thing???). When I make a song I feel that I’ve done something really important. Whether it's any good or not is for others to judge. Finally, I don’t care. For me it makes me happy and should it strike a chord with another I feel pure joy. Then life cannot get any better.
